Preparing for Success!

Beginning January 1, 2013 I will begin my two year term as President of the Baltimore Chapter of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP).  You may have not heard of us.   Who are we?  ASDP is a professional sewing organization for anyone in the business of sewing and fashion design.

ASDP's mission is to support individuals engaged in sewing and design related businesses, in both commercial and home-based settings. Our members are involved in professional sewing in a variety of garment sewing specialties, including custom clothing, formal and bridal wear, design, pattern making, tailoring and alterations, accessories, costumes, wearable art, image consulting, production sewing, teaching and other industry-related avenues. Among our ranks are many published authors and instructors who are well-recognized and respected in the industry.  Such as, Susan Khalje, Sarah Veblen and Rae Cumbie are members of the Baltimore Chapter.  Each of these ladies are published authors in the sewing world.  Regular contributors to Threads  and Sew News Magazine.

I have been a member since 2007 and must say it is one the best things I've done to enhance my new career in sewing and fashion design.  Most importantly the educational, resources and networking opportunities have proven to be a tremendous asset.  The members of the Baltimore Chapter have been my greatest support system.  There support includes teaching classes at the Sassy SEWer, sharing their experiences and knowledge, and providing feedback/insight on various sewing and fashion design related issues and ideas.    Members know first hand the joys and challenges of owning a sewing and design business.

In addition to local chapter membership.  There is also national membership.  National members can attend the national conference.  2012 I attended my first national conference.  I'll share details in a later blog post.  Some well known members are Claire Shaeffer, Patti Palmer and  Kenneth King.

If you are a student, sewing professional or considering a career in the sewing and design profession check us out.  ASDP offers memberships in various categories for students, sewing professionals and sewers who want to increase their skill level. The Baltimore Chapter meets 2nd Thursdays 5-7:30pm at the Sassy SEWer/9008 Harford Road/Parkville, MD 21234/410.882.7277
