Announcing Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design



The Sassy SEWer is now offering Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design classes for kids ages 6 - 12 years old. Kids Can Sew® Sewing Program started in the 80's and is the original program for teaching kids to sew. All other programs came as a result of ours, but none can duplicate the simplicity and ease of use that our program offers.

The Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design curriculum - pattern packets consist of kids sewing patterns that area easy to follow patterns, instructions and directions organized into Student Pattern Packets. These Student Pattern Packets contain a workbook of sewing instructions with full sized and multi sized clothing patterns. In addition we also offer kids Sewing Camps year round. While the main part of our curriculum is geared toward younger children (girls & boys), we offer a line of teens, and adults pattern packets as well.

What is the Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design Curriculum?

How many Student Pattern Packets are there?
Shown in the slideshow above is a sample of the Student 1st Year Packet however we currently have TWELVE Student Pattern Packets in the program consisting of different skill levels designed to help advancing students learn and progress through the program. Because of our unmatched range of projects students can stay enrolled for years learning the correct sewing methods. The average student will stay enrolled for three to four years.

How many projects does each Student Pattern Packet have?
It varies with each Student Pattern Packet. However, students use each packet for approximately 12 months. For example, the first year pattern packet contains enough projects to keep a child sewing for more than 50 one hour lessons making a complete wardrobe of adorable fun and easy to sew projects.

Does Kids Can Sew® offer Sewing Camps?
Yes, Most Kids Can Sew® teachers offer sewing camps for their students as well. The Camp Collections student packets provide an excellent sewing program for the Kids Can Sew® camps and many teachers run camps year round.

What are the advantages of using the Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design Student Pattern Packet - Curriculum?
Since each student has their very own Student Pattern Packet, everyone knows immediately the project and the step they are working on. One of the best advantages is that the sewing instructions are professionally bound into book form so that students will not loose them. This is tremendously helpful. Another benefit is that teachers, students, and parents know in advance what project comes next.

What are the sewing projects in the Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design Student Pattern Packets - Curriculum?
Projects consist of a wide variety of clothing projects. These projects are designed in such a way that the students learn fashion design techniques and methods geared to the student’s age. For example: Students may be taught how to add a ruffle to the Skirt Pattern, which completely changes the look of the particular pattern to a different and NEW fun design. Projects include some of the following to equal dozens upon dozens of fabulously fun fashions; Pants, Shorts, Capri’s, Blouses, Tops, Shirts, Jumpers, Sweat Pants, Dresses, Nightwear, Lounge Wear, Sweat Shirts, Exercise Wear, Nightshirts, Gathered Blouses, Gathered Skirts, Gathered Nightgowns. Our curriculum can keep a student busy for several years, then because of the thorough knowledge and skills learned in a Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design classroom students will have the appropriate background to move into the 'store purchased’ commercial patterns.
